Santo Antao - The community of Ribeira das Patas complains the lack of a health center

  • Arlindo Delgado, president of the Integrated Development Association of Ribeira das Patas (ADIRP), argues that the community, elevated to the category of town in past July, still has many needs, highlighting a health center and a doctor.

Praia - 7 July - The Community of Ribeira das Patas, within the County of Porto Novos, says to be in lack of a Health Centre and the permanence of a doctor, in order to address the real needs of this town and other locations in surroundings, with regard to access to health.

According to Arlindo Delgado, president of the Integrated Development Association of Ribeira das Patas (ADIRP), the community, elevated to the category of town in the past July, still has many needs, such as a health center and a doctor.

"We still have many needs here in Ribeira das Patas. Long ago that we lack a health center and permanence of a doctor full time, to avoid movement of people to the city of Porto Novo and other islands", says the president of ADIRP, for whom the existing Health Center is, is currently, insufficient for the population.

Arlindo Delgado also said that the community is meeting in order to find a consensus date to be assigned to the day of "Vila de Ribeira das Patas", which will become official on September 2, Porto Novo Municipality Day.

"However, the date should not be close to São João Baptista parties nor the day of the municipality", he said.

Note that Ribeira das Patas was elevated to the category of town in July, along with 17 more settlements, thus joining the 24 cities in the country, and most of them were highlighted that category in 2010.

The town of Ribeira das Patas, whose economy revolves around agriculture and trade, was created between 1813 and 1814.

It counts today with about three thousand inhabitants and some infrastructure, highlighted by a school, telecommunications network, water network and sporting venues.
